Chocolate Cake Success
New York State Fair’s Hershey Bake-off winning recipe.
1 cup unsalted butter
1 cup granulated suger
1 teaspoon rum
1 cup all-purpose flour
3 eggs
1/2 cup Hershey’s cocoa
1/2 cup Hershey’s chocolate, meltedFor the Filling:
1/2 cup Hershey’s unsweetened chocolate, melted
1 cup unsalted butter
1/3 Hershey’s cocoa
1 cup superfine sugar
1 teaspoon rum
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tbsp melted butterPreheat the oven to 350 F. Grease a round-shaped cake pan. Place the butter, sugar and rum in a mixing bowl and beat until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Sift together the flour, salt and cocoa powder and add into the whisked mixture and mix gently. Add melted chocolate.
Transfer the cake mixture to the prepared pan and bake for 40-50 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
To making the filling, place the butter, rum, vanilla and sugar in a mixing bowl and beat with electric beaters until the mixture is light and fluffy.
Mix melted butter with Hershey’s Coca and add it to the whisked mixture. Add the melted chocolate.
Cut the cake into two layers. Spread the filling mixture between them and decorate the top.
