Fulton County Farm Bureau Beef Cookoff

The winning recipe was Crown of Gold Meatloaf, Cajun Style Ribeye Steak came in second and the following recipes tied for third: Dad’s Italian Beef, 1937 Macaroni and Beef, and Cheeseburger Loaf.

Crown of Gold Meatloaf

1 1/2 cups soft bread crumbs
4 egg yolks
2 T. mustard
3 T. diced green peppers
1/3 cup catsup
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 T. horseradish
2 T. chopped onion

Topping: 4 egg whites, 1/2 tsp. cream of tarter, 4 T. mustard

Mix bread crumbs with meat. Combine remaining ingredients. Blend into meat mixture. Pack into a 9-inch loaf pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 30 minutes.

While baking, beat egg whites until foamy. Add cream of tarter. Continue beating until very stiff. Gently fold in mustard. Swirl on hot loaf. Return to oven. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or longer, until crown is golden brown.
